Dragons Den- Gaming alerts LTD

Last night on Dragons Den a company called Gaming Alerts limited managed to secure 200k for a 30% stake in their business which provides a downloadable desktop application that alerts users with filtered infomation according to their requirements.

E-Man pioneered this application in 2001.

This application is Net SorcererTM technology. A software application that was developed pre-broadband by my team and that provided the blueprint for Sky Sports news alerts, something that was mentioned on Dragons Den last night.

E-man won a DTI award and government backed funding in recognition of innovation in on-line marketing communications for our work creating Net SorcererTM. Some would day, that people have used our innovation to drive their businesses forward developing applications that have given them competitive advantage.

In 2002 I presented the very same gaming alerts opportunity to a company in Soho caled Gaming Insights.

To me 200k for 30% is reckless. If mobile applications were further developed then this would offer more potential as an investment, but not at this time I'm afraid. The projections given were completely inaccurate and I predict a real struggle for any new business entering this arena.

I shall be commenting on Dragons Den again later in the series so watch this space.

I do feel that the panel require someone who is more in touch with web2.0 and other new web/mobile applications. I do not feel that anyone has the required experience needed to make an informed decision on an idea, its route to market and exploitation potential. The panel are extremely successful business entrepreneurs, but new media is different.

web2.0 is still wobbling around and needs shaking up. If these two can raise 200k for an idea such as this then we are in one great big bubble.
